Pi Network News: KYC Breakthrough and Protocol Upgrade Put Pi Back in Focus
Pi Network is making fresh progress on two fronts — clearing long-standing KYC hurdles and moving ahead with its next blockchain upgrade. The latest developments could help more users complete their Mainnet journey while giving developers a stronger platform to build on.
Pi Network is back in the spotlight after announcing another round of improvements to its KYC and Mainnet migration system. The network said more than 417,000 Pioneers who had been affected by a duplicate-account verification issue can now move forward, after additional checks determined that their accounts were not duplicates. The update was announced by Pi Network on September 17, 2026.
For Pi users, this is significant because KYC has been one of the most important steps between earning Pi and actually moving eligible balances to the Mainnet blockchain. Pi Network says its latest technical changes are aimed at handling specific cases in which genuine users became stuck during KYC or migration because of additional verification requirements or technical issues.
KYC Bottleneck Slowly Being Addressed
Pi's KYC process is designed to verify that accounts belong to real individuals and to prevent duplicate or policy-violating accounts from entering the Mainnet ecosystem. Because of the scale of the Pi community, the network has been handling different categories of users through separate technical solutions rather than moving everyone through the process in exactly the same way.
The latest update follows several earlier attempts by Pi Network to speed up KYC and migration. In December 2025, Pi said its integration of additional AI technology into Standard KYC had reduced the queue of applications waiting for human validation by about 50%.
The network has also previously reported millions of users being unblocked through automated checks and other technical improvements. This means the September update is part of a longer-running effort rather than a completely new KYC system.
Protocol Upgrade Adds Another Layer of Attention
While KYC progress is important for users, Pi Network's blockchain development is another reason the project is attracting attention.
Pi has continued to roll out protocol and developer updates during 2026. Its July Protocol v25 upgrade, for example, introduced technical capabilities including BN254 cryptography and Poseidon hashing, which Pi said could support privacy-preserving applications and future zero-knowledge use cases.
More recently, Pi also announced new developer capabilities, including local storage for selected Pi Browser apps, additional staking-related data and file and video-sharing capabilities. The project also released new developer documentation intended to make it easier to build and launch applications within the Pi ecosystem.
The latest market report on September 22 linked renewed interest in PI to the combination of KYC progress and expectations surrounding the next protocol upgrade. The report said PI was trading around $0.0895 at the time, although cryptocurrency prices can change rapidly and short-term movements should not be treated as evidence of long-term performance.
What This Means for Pi Users
For ordinary Pioneers, the immediate focus is relatively simple: check the Pi app, complete any outstanding KYC or liveness requirements, and make sure the Mainnet Checklist is completed if the account is eligible for migration.
Pi Network has repeatedly emphasized that different users can experience different migration timelines because accounts may require different checks. Its migration roadmap also separates initial migrations from later migration stages, including second migrations and referral-related balances.
That makes the latest 417,000-account update important, but it does not mean that every Pi account will automatically receive Mainnet migration at the same time.
The Bigger Pi Network Story
The latest developments show that Pi Network is continuing to work on the infrastructure behind its large user base. KYC, Mainnet migration, blockchain upgrades and developer tools are all connected to the project's larger goal of building an ecosystem where Pi can be used through applications and services rather than remaining only a mined digital balance.
Pi Network's own updates show that the project is putting significant effort into removing technical barriers for users while simultaneously expanding tools for developers.
For now, the key question is no longer simply how many people have downloaded or mined Pi. The more important test will be how effectively the network converts its large community into verified users, active Mainnet participants, developers and real-world applications.
**With KYC bottlenecks being addressed and blockchain infrastructure continuing to evolve, Pi Network has entered another important phase of its development. Whether that progress ultimately translates into wider everyday utility will depend on adoption, applications, ecosystem activity and the network's continued technical execution.**
